SUP is a water sports activity that allows you to enjoy the sea or lakes, but also to get to grips with white water or the crashing waves. Often considered a leisure activity for tourists, it can also be practised competitively! SUP boards can be hard or inflatable, and the longer and wider they are, the greater their stability.
On this trip, you'll practice SUP Cruising. It's a fun, discovery ride of varying lengths, ideal for keeping fit and sharing time with friends and family. There are two other ways to practice SUP:
- The Race, for demanding long-distance races. A high level of training and physical commitment are required to combine speed and endurance. This is a competitive discipline, and SUP is a member of the French Surfing Federation.
- Surfing, as surfers do, involves taking waves offshore by paddling into them. This substitute for surfing has the advantage of being easy to spot, but also easy to catch: no need to stand up on the board!
This activity is actually the ancestor of surfing.
In ancient times, Polynesian kings practiced this sport on huge boards carved from tree trunks. It was the famous Hawaiian swimming champion Duke Hananamoku who took up the sport and revived it in the 1940s-50s. Later, surfers used it to maintain their physical condition, and began to convert SUP into surfboarding.
Long ignored by the general public, this sport is now becoming increasingly popular with holidaymakers and water sports enthusiasts. Renowned for its physical benefits, cruising is an activity suitable for all ages and sporting levels.
